Welcome to the first comprehensive job placement resource dedicated to the Art of teaching DRAMA, MUSICAL THEATER AND DANCE. 

​We believe that the ARTS get to the heart of what it means to be human.  Art teachers are storytellers supporting the primary way in which we communicate with each other and about the world.  Independent schools have long cherished the arts, expanding their class offerings and investing in state of the art studio spaces, galleries and community performance venues. Independent schools thrive when their art programs flourish. 

To do this well, they need teachers like you.

As a performing arts teacher in an independent school, you push boundaries and bring visionary thinking, craft and community to the campus. You are also the person that can effectively model collaboration between departments and attract a student to choose your school over another.  Furthermore performing art teachers tend to incorporate sophisticated means of feedback to their students, emphasizing progression towards mastery rather than rote learning and conventional modes of assessment. 

We are looking for teachers and administrators with the following skills: 
  • Teaching experience in a theatre or dance department in an Independent Schools or Higher Education  
  • A Bachelor or Master's degree or significant professional experience in the following fields:​
    • Teaching acting for the stage and film
    • Coaching, directing plays or/and musicals
    • Voice coaches for choir, opera, pop
    • Technical theater (stage management, production)
    • Classical Ballet and/or Modern dance Technique instructors
    • Jazz and Tap dance instructors
    • African Dance, Hip Hop, Fusion instructors
    • Choreographers
    • Experience leading Clubs (Shakespeare, Public Speaking, Fitness, Ballroom dance, etc.)
  • Enjoy working with a wide range of ages and abilities, have experience teaching community performing arts classes
  • Positive thinkers, able to encourage, mediate and support students, present the performing arts program to parents and willing to perform a variety of administrative functions
  • Commitment to understanding diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging challenges in education
  • ​Exceptional judgment, discretion, and integrity when working with students in an educational environment

Niki Conraths has worked until this last school year at Walnut Hill School for the Arts (MA) where she has held the positions of Director of Artistic Studies and Special Adviser to HOS on Partnerships. Prior to that she worked at Interlochen Center for the Arts (MI) for eight years and held the role of Director of Comparative Arts.  She is based in Michigan.  Send an email.
